Tester Family | Winter Maternity Session | Abilene Texas Photographer
As we draw closer towards the end of the year, my anticipation for all the new things to come in 2019 is growing and I can hardly contain my excitement. Each year, I start with a vision for my brand and each year, I work tirelessly towards that goal. My 2018 goals were far surpassed as I grew my brand into what it is today. I am so proud of how far I came this year and how many tools I have gained towards bettering myself and my brand for the coming year. A specific vision I have for my brand is to allow myself more creativity and focus on textures, light, and color. These motifs will be strung throughout my relaunch in January as I hone in my niche and love for capturing every fleeting moments through simplicity and authenticity in motherhood and newborn portraiture.
I went into today’s session feeling like I was already failing at what I am hoping to accomplish in 2019 and the depravity of sleep combined with the monotonous color and lack of depth the dead of winter brings had me in a total slump. I drove around Abilene earlier in the day and was left completely uninspired. It was in the moment I recognized a familiar ache of comparison and reminded myself that I have created a brand and have the power to continue curating my brand on what I envision, not what another’s person’s brand represents. I can only be one person and it is up to me to decide if I am going to be overcome by miniscule obstacles or achieve the vision that I keep in the back of my mind.
As I sang out my worship songs while heading to my session, I was gazing around at the colors and gently reminded that this was my favorite season last year. The delicate colors and soft winter light were two things you did not get in the spring and summer seasons, especially in West Texas. I pulled into my usual spot but knew I needed to take my session to the next level and while we were met with trenches of mud, it was worth the drive to get to a new spot I hadn’t explored yet. Our sunlight was soft, diffused through thin clouds that, while did send a bit of rain during our session, gave me the softest colors and allowed me to use our surroundings in a new way. I am inspired once again.
